Trauma-Informed Practice Foundations

Trauma Informed foundations with background of two people holding hands in the shape of a heart

Trauma is more common than many people realise. Whether working in health, justice, education, policy, or community services, many of us encounter the impacts of trauma, sometimes without realising it.

This 2.5 hour foundational workshop introduces the principles of trauma-informed practice, supporting you to engage with greater care, safety, and awareness, for the people you serve, the people you work with and for yourself.

You don’t need to be a therapist to work in trauma-aware ways. You just need the right lens.

What We’ll Explore

  • What trauma is, how it shows up, and why it matters across sectors

  • A practical introduction to the five trauma-informed principles: safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment

  • How the nervous system responds to stress and how this can shape engagement, communication, and behaviour

  • Everyday strategies and mindsets that help reduce harm and support emotional safety

  • A reflective activity to consider how you might bring a trauma-informed lens to your own work

You’ll leave with practical tools and a deeper understanding of how trauma-informed practice can support more ethical, effective, and human-centred work.
